Aside from helping raise many tens of thousands of pounds, Adam and his team have brought national fame to the Trust and our pioneering work in robotic surgery. Adam has climbed mountains – literally – run half marathons and staged quiz nights for the Robbie appeal. Haynes had tossed hundreds of 1 bills on the stripper stage, an action known in street slang as 'making it rain,' and Jones joined in. “Consultant Urologist Adam Jones won the Health Worker of the Year category for leading the Robbie the Robot fundraising efforts. Then these athletes blame it on anyone but themselves: the league, the cars, the entourage and somehow we’re supposed to fell sorry for them. In conjunction with Paul Rogers (oncologist) and Peter Malone Adam has helped to build up the prostate brachytherapy service in Reading to be one of the busiest ‘real time’ centres in Europe with over 1000 patients treated.Īdam says “Working in a unit with expertise in both brachytherapy and robotic surgery is uncommon in the UK and means our patients really do get a genuine choice of treatments for their prostate problems”.Īdam Jones joined Reading Urology in 2003 after being appointed to the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in 2002.Īdam was nominated as Health Worker of the Year in the Pride of Reading awards for his work in raising funds to keep the Da Vinci robot at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. They say Pacman brought in a bag with about 100,000 with him into the strip club and then you wonder how some athletes go bankrupt after they’re done playing. Adam also works on the European Robotic Urology Symposium helping to train robotic surgeons of the future. This appeal brought the first Da Vinci robot to Reading in 2008. He has also taught as a faculty member for ERUS (European Robotic Urology Symposium) training courses and was appointed to the Royal College of Surgeons of England Court of Examiners in 2013-present.Īdam has pioneered robotic surgery in Reading, both clinically, performing over 500 radical prostatectomies and also by leading the ‘Robbie the Robot Appeal’. Adam Jones has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery for benign and malignant urology conditions performing over 700 nephrectomies (kidney removal), as well as adding to the existing service for urological cancer.
